Frequently Asked Questions (and Answers!)

New to SCBC

  • Where is the church campus located?
Check out the directions page for the location.
  • What type of attire is appropriate?
People at SCBC wear a wide variety of clothing, from suit and tie to blue jeans and tie-dyed T-shirts.  We want people to be comfortable and not feel like they have to purchase special "church clothes".
  • What are your basic beliefs about God?
God made every person and He wants a close relationship with everyone. We make choices in our lives that separate us from God (those negative choices are called “sin”). Because of sin in our lives, we deserve punishment. God sent His Son Jesus who died on a cross to pay the penalty for our sins. Jesus was buried in a tomb, but rose again (came back to life) on Easter Sunday.

God wants every person to become a follower of Jesus. In order to do that, we must admit that we have sinned and done wrong things in our lives. We must believe that Jesus died on the cross for our sins and that He rose from the dead. We must ask Jesus to be the Leader of our lives and the Forgiver of our sins. Becoming a follower of Jesus means that we are willing to follow the commands and teachings of Jesus. When we accept Jesus as the Leader of our lives then we are promised eternal life with God in heaven.

For a more detailed description, check out the Baptist Faith and Message found here.
  • What denomination is this church?
Southern Crescent Baptist Church is voluntarily affiliated with the Southside Baptist Network, the Georgia Baptist Convention, and the Southern Baptist Convention. We are connected to these organizations primarily for the purpose of doing mission work in Henry County, Georgia, North America, and around the world.
  • Are you involved in any activities within the community?
People at SCBC are encouraged to participate in a variety of activities within the local, state, national, and international "community" as a way to express God's love to others.  Some recent activities include:

Feeding Homeless -  People at SCBC travel to downtown Atlanta once a month to feed the homeless and share God's love.

World Changers - each year, the youth at SCBC participate in World Changers events throughout the nation where they help rebuild homes, churches and lives.

A Friend's House - SCBC goes to A Friend's House here in Henry County once a month to feed breakfast to the children residing there.

Operation Christmas Child - every year, the children that participate in SCBC's AWANA program collect items to place in shoe boxes that are sent to needy children around the world.
